    • 21.06.2025 - Collab Cafes in 2024 Part3

Last part, part 3, 3 places to go, okay, letsgo!! Last week in tokyo and to these places I went by myself. All my friends gone... .
      (home).

      Anyway. Pop-up cafes!
These are short-term cafes in specific locations and usually require a reservation. I check all the upcoming collabs on collabo-cafe.com so I knew about the Gigo love-live cafe but since it was themed around superstar and I'm not really into Liella I wasn't planning on going, however, while bigtime-gaming in Akihabara I saw an add for it and just uhh walked there? They had a free spot in about 30minutes and I mean It WAS You's birthday so I thought why not. (as always... click img for big...)

They had a bunch of decorations for You so ofc I had to get her birthday dessert and drink (and a coffee). Every drink got you a coaster and as for what you get is pretty much a gatcha so you just gotta be lucky with them or be brave enough to trade with someone else. Im not confident in speaking japanese (or to people in general) so I never even tried BUT!!! About 20minutes in someone came over asking if I would trade my Keke! They had a ... .. . Worrying... Amount of coasters. But I got to trade!! YIPPIIIIIII

.. Other than that I didn't think much about this place, the drink was blue-ish, ice cream was sweet and the cake moist so yea sure 3/5.

While in Odaiba I visited the character-cafe next to a love Live centered Gamers shop. This day was on Makis birthday and Maki being originally my favorite μ's character I had to celebrate with her birthday dessert (it also came with a A5 limited Maki print). The place itself was cute. I cant say much more. I think this google review sums up this if not most of the collab cafe experiences.

The mall close by was also holding a stamp rally for Nijigasaki with limited merch in different shops. Unfortunately almost everything was sold out so all I could find was stickers, character cards, and candy boxes but you would also receive a random character illustration for every x amount of money spent. Buying some candy and stickers of the goats (qu4rtz) got me to 2. As luck would have it I got both? of my? favorites?? Ema AND Kasumi?? boTH?
The character cards were also (ofc) gatcha but I did get a rare Ayumu and another??? Ema??? My sweet bean.. . ....

Last cafe was a Sweets Paradise collab with Hypnosis Mic. Sweets Paradise is a buffet style restaurant with an array of cakes and desserts (and .. pasta?). They also do alot of collab menus but you have to pay for the buffet + any collab menu items you order even if you dont touch the buffet which is... Not ideal. But as a certified sweet tooth I did want to try the place out once anyway.

      Quess my favorite boy.
Since I had to pay for the buffet I only went for a savory dish and a couple drinks. Bad Ass Temple dish was a hitsumabushi that also came with a pot of green tea to make chazuke. Had to ofc get the best boy soda and the Jakurai drink was a "charchoal latte". Im not really supposed to consume activated charchoal but just tryin it once is ok... Right?
The food was overall fine and the soda actually tasted like proper strawberry. The latte was.. Milk.
Every order (+1) got you a coaster and again the gatcha gods smiled upon me and Ichiro came home. (Other 3 were dice, rosho and rio.)
Collab cafes usually always come with limited merch and I had to pick up this absolute unit of a standee.

      And.. That's it.
Overall thoughts about most of these places varies from just fine to pretty good. If I had a reservation I would plan my days around it and the ones which didn't really require one I would treat as cafes to stop by and rest so my orders were mostly desserts and drinks. I dont think I would order most of the food anyway because with the same prize you can get some great quality food in a proper restaurant.

      Are collab cafes worth it?
Depends on what the "it" is. They are more expensive than regular cafes and sometimes the food is just passable and drinks 80% ice. But they might have your oshis face on a cake so that's basically prizeless. Or maybe just being in an enviroment centered around your current hyperfixation is worth paying some extra for.

The pokemon and ffxiv cafes I will most likely go back to if not just for the aesthetics but I do think the overall experience is still "worth".
                                                 okay, thanks
